History & Staff

We have years of experience caring for families, from all walks of life. Each family comes to us because they know we are leaders in our profession, dedicated to excellence in service, and have the highest integrity.

Our History

Our funeral home is a family owned and operated business. We are large enough to give our families the same service as the largest funeral homes around, yet we are small enough that each family gets the level of attention and care they deserve.

Kevin Michael Brennan

Kevin Michael Brennan, Founder

May 2, 1951 - October 6, 2012

Kevin Michael Brennan, 61, Topeka, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012 of lung cancer. Kevin was born May 2, 1951, the son of David P. and Mary E. Hefner Brennan. He was a life-long Topekan who attended Most Pure Heart of Mary Grade School and graduated from Hayden High in 1969. Kevin served in the US Army Reserve for six years. Thirty-five years ago, Kevin and Mary Halpin were married. She survives. In 1995, he was diagnosed with cancer and told that he would die. God chose otherwise and Kevin's doctors agreed that he had received a miracle. He retired from Southwestern Bell in 1999 with 30 years of service.

In 2001, Kevin fulfilled his long held dream, and honored his grandparents, Matthew and Mary Ellen Brennan, and his father's memory, by continuing the Brennan legacy of providing excellent funeral service to the Topeka area. The only Brennans in funeral service in Topeka are at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home. Kevin was a parishioner of Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Council No. 534 and the James W. Gibbons Fourth Degree Assembly, the Serra Club, the Topeka St. Patrick's Day Committee and the Topeka Cosmopolitan Club. Kevin was most appreciative of the additional 17 years granted to him by Almighty God and did his best to honor that gift.

Left to cherish Kevin's memory are his wife, Mary; daughter, Jennifer Brennan Emmert, and husband, Mike, Topeka; daughter, Kate Brennan Weber, and husband, Monty, Great Bend; son, K. Michael Brennan II, and wife, Catie, Shawnee; son, Patrick L. Brennan, Lawrence; grandchildren, Michaela, Liz and Clare Emmert, Finley and Elliott Weber, and Declan and Maeve Brennan; siblings, Mary Beth Brennan (Randy Goldsmith), Kent Brennan (Patti), David Brennan, Jr. (Mary DeCoursey), Greg Brennan (Joy), and Kathy Whalen (Scott); sister-in-law, Linda Brennan; brother-in-law, Denis Kenney; aunt, Leah Hefner; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters and brothers-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Nancy Kenney, on March 4, 2012 and niece, Bridget Kenney. His brother, Patrick J. Brennan passed October 12, 2012.

Mary H. Brennan

Mary H. Brennan, Co-founder and Owner

I grew up in a large and loving family where my parents taught by example. Vincent and Harriett Ridgway Halpin left a rich legacy of caring for others. I took that lesson to heart - my heart. My eighteen years with Mary Kay Cosmetics focused on helping women feel better about themselves. I worked five years at Holy Name Church and Grade School and then two years as the secretary of Assumption Grade School. These years were most rewarding because of the children and their families whom I was privileged to serve. They are very dear to my heart. I am a graduate of Hayden High School and a member of Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church.

I was honored to be alongside my husband, Kevin, as we brought his life-long dream into reality by founding Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home. Along with our daughter, Jennifer Brennan Emmert, we offered the families of Topeka and surrounding communities a fresh choice in funeral service. Once again there were real Brennans to assist those in their times of need. We are the only Brennans in funeral service in Topeka.

Since Kevin's death on October 6, 2012, I have chosen to honor his legacy and continue to offer families the very best in funeral service. Families we have served call us the "Angels on the Hill." At your time of need let the Kevin Brennan family and staff assist you.

I am the fourth and youngest child of Kevin and Mary Brennan. I graduated from Hayden High School and attended KU and Washburn University. I began working part-time for our family business while still in grade school and have been full-time since April of 2012. I am very proud of my Dad and what he accomplished in his life-time, and am honored to continue serving our community here at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home.

Linda Goering

Linda Goering, Secretary/Receptionist

I was born and raised in the Oakland community and married to Les Goering since 1979. We have two grown children, Patricia and Kevin. My career began at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, which extended over 26 years. Since leaving the telephone company, I was immersed in various endeavors; worked for Schmidtlein Electric and volunteered at Sacred Heart Catholic School (now Holy Family School). Family has always been an important part of my life and I feel very blessed to have the opportunity to be a part of Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home. It is my honor to do whatever I can to make your first step into the funeral home a bit more relaxed when you come to us in time of need.
