Alan Daugherty

Alan Ray Daugherty, 62, Topeka, Kansas, passed away February 20, 2024. Alan was born August 19, 1961, to Donald and Marlene Flynn Daugherty in Fort Gordon, Georgia. He grew up in Hereford, Texas, graduating from Hereford High School in 1979. He was later transferred from Hereford to Topeka while working for Santa Fe Railroad. He then worked for R & B Aircraft at Billard Airport in Topeka. He later worked for Lawrence Paper Co. working on corrugated packaging designs. In the summer of 2004, Alan moved to Johnson City, Tennessee before returning to Topeka in 2023. Alan married Cindy Blankenship April 29, 1995. Cindy likes to say his story was that he was born in Georgia, grew up in Texas with Oklahoma parents and then was saved when he moved to Kansas and met her. Alan enjoyed fishing, golf, disc golf, finding deals through DealDash and Temu, and tinkering and “MacGyvering” anything and everything he could get his hands on. Alan is survived by his wife, Cindy, Topeka; his daughters, Krystal Mercer (Scott), Topeka and Kyla Rice (Jacob), Fort Scott KS; grandchildren, Drake and Avery Mercer, and Callie Rice; his mother, Marlene Daugherty, Topeka; sister, Sandra Shea (Mike), Pleasant Hill MO; parents-in-law, Gerald and Joy Blankenship, Silver Lake; siblings-in-law, Karen Dashnaw, Topeka, David Blankenship (Emily), Sandy UT, and Judy Kilts, Topeka; many beloved nieces and nephews; special friends that became family in Tennessee, including Clara, who called him Papa; and his cat, Spooky B. Scooter. Alan was preceded in death by his grandparents, J.M. and Irene Flynn and Earl and Bessie Daugherty; his father, Donald Daugherty; sister, Sheila Daugherty, and brother-in-law, Ray Dashnaw. Family will greet friends from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday February 29, 2024, at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614. His funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Cat Association of Topeka and sent in care of the funeral home.
