Betty Adams

Betty Jean Adams, 84, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, Oct. 7 at Stormont Vail Health Center with family at her bedside following a long battle with pneumonia and Alzheimer’s disease. She was born Nov. 12, 1922 in Cole Center, PA the daughter of John and Mae Higgisbottom George. In her early years, Betty spent time on the Allegheny River boats as a cook, traveling to New Orleans and back. In her later years, she served the California community in which she lived in various capacities and received numerous plaques of appreciation for that service from the City of Fontana, CA. Betty lived the last four years after her husband Perry’s passing in Topeka in the close care and love of her family. Betty lived a life of service and especially loved children and animals. Betty was dearly loved by all who knew her and leaves behind many lives that were touched by her. “Betty, you have gone home, but the seeds of love you have planted in the fullness of your life will bring a rich harvest of love and remembrance for those you left behind”. Betty was the wife and widow of husbands Clarence Kelly, Ira Kenney and Orval Perry Adams. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Bazzewski and brothers John “Boom” George and Clifford George. Survivors include a daughter, Emma Perry (Gerry) of Independence, MO; niece Kellene Van Dorn of Topeka; godson Garrett Lyle Riedmann, Topeka; great nieces Krista Lundy, Kyndra Riedmann and Savannah Riedmann, all of Topeka; sisters Delores Dombrowcki and Phyllis Pericko of PA; brother Audi George and his wife of Pennsylvania; nephew Roger Higgins of PA; sisters in law Lee Loviska of CA, Orpha Price, Thelma Guay and Jean Esley, all of Topeka; brothers in law Wayne Adams and his wife Deloras of CO, Norman Adams and wife Virginia of Minnesota; her dog Heidi of Topeka and many, many other local relatives, and those in other states who love her. Betty will lie in state after 2 pm today at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Rd, Topeka KS 66614, where the family will greet friends from 6 to 8 pm. Rite of Christian Burial will be at 2 pm Saturday Oct.13 at the funeral home. She will be accompanied home by her family and buried in the Highland Cemetery in California, PA. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Alzheimers’s Association and sent in care of the funeral home.
