Carol Hochard Haslouer

Carol Ruth Haslouer, 79, Topeka, Kansas, beloved mother, passed away Thursday, September 18, 2025. Carol was born May 2, 1946, in Topeka, the daughter of the late Clement William “Bill” Hochard and Ruth Virginia Jager Hochard. She graduated from Hayden High School in 1964. As a student she volunteered at the hospital as a “candy striper” and was an officer in the Future Nurses Club at Hayden. Carol attended St. Margaret School of Nursing in Kansas City and earned her LPN from Kaw Area Vocational and Technical School. She worked for Dr. Michael Giessel at Cotton-O’Neil Clinic for 23 years before retiring. On June 24, 1994, Carol married Paul Edward Pendergast who died April 9, 1996. Stephen George Haslouer and Carol were united in marriage on April 17, 1998, enjoying almost 17 years together before his death on March 12, 2015. Carol loved her home in Tulsa, nature and working in her garden beds, watching and feeding the birds, relaxing at home, the KC Chiefs, craft fairs, making her famous peppernut cookies, holidays and loving and caring for those around her. Carol embraced her Catholic faith and loved her family dearly. She loved being “Gram” and cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Carol was greatly loved and her presence will be sadly missed. Left to cherish Carol’s memory are her daughter, Tracy Best (Tracey); daughter-in-law, Rosalind Cook; her grandchildren, Breanna Templin, Kayla Best Bowman, Austin Best, Mariah Dewey (Brit), Clayton Aker, Michael Best, Lauren Cook, Ethan Aker and Emma Aker; great-grandchildren, Scarlett, Harrison, Atticus, Oaklee, Ronin and Victoria; her mother, Ruth Hochard; her siblings, Jack Hochard (Marilyn), Charlene Yerion (Mike) and Ron Hochard; her mother-in-law, Dorothy Holmstrom; sisters-in-law, Rhonda Cash and Nan Delay (Ken); and many nieces and nephews. Carol was also preceded in death by her children, Vicky Aker on March 18, 2018, Jason Cook on August 11, 2024, and Matthew Cook on September 20, 2024; and her grandson, Noah Aker on October 18, 2006. Family will greet friends Thursday, September 25, from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. and the rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at Christ the King Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Boys Town (a legacy that champions the cause of at-risk youth) and sent in care of the funeral home.
