Deborah Horton

Deborah Ann Horton, 72, Topeka, Kansas, passed away at her home Thursday, February 9, 2023. Deborah was born November 13, 1950, in Seneca, Kansas, the daughter of Raymond and Virginia Stuke Sanders. She graduated in 1969 from Saints Peter and Paul High School in Seneca and then from cosmetology school in Topeka. She worked at a beauty shop in Holiday Square for a year but then opened her own salon in her home taking care of her clients for many years. Eventually Deborah was employed by the State of Kansas in the Department of Transportation, from which she retired. In 1970, Deborah married Ronald Holthaus and to this union two sons were born. They later divorced. On March 14, 1995, Deborah and Robert Lee Horton were united in marriage enjoying 17 years together prior to his death July 3, 2012. Deborah had a giving heart; no charity was too large or too small and she blessed many with her donations. She loved animals and was a social butterfly who loved visiting. She enjoyed listening to music and was an avid Elvis Presley fan, always wanting to have visited Graceland. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed attending her sons’ and grandchildren’s events. Deborah loved her family dearly and will be greatly missed. Grateful to have shared her life are her sons, Chad Holthaus (Jennifer) and Wes Holthaus (Dylan); grandchildren, Chance, Caden, Avery and Beckham Holthaus; her mother, Virginia Sanders; brothers, Daniel Sanders (Mary), David Sanders (Glenda); sisters, Sheryl Huerter (Jerry) and Julie Boeding (Steve); and nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her father. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Thursday, February 16, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where the rosary will be prayed at 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at the Church. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
