Delmar Bacon

Delmar E. Bacon, 92, Tecumseh, Kansas, passed away Sunday, March 27, 2022. Delmar was born February 22, 1930, in Topeka, Kansas, to Wendell and Amelia Iwig Bacon. He was a 1948 graduate of Highland Park High School and attended Washburn University. He was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad when called to serve our country. Delmar served in the US Marine Corps. and upon his honorable discharge attended Clark’s School of Business and returned to work at Santa Fe until his retirement with 35 years of service. On October 22, 1950, Delmar and Leona Wendland were united in marriage at Grace Evangelical United Brethren Church in Topeka enjoying more than 71 years of marriage. Delmar stayed busy in retirement. He was a marvelous woodworker; he designed and built six grandfather clocks and furniture for his family and friends. He stayed in touch with his Santa Fe buddies over coffee. As a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Delmar was one of a men’s group who kept the church well cared for. He was a longtime member of the Crusaders Sunday School Class and made a mission trip to Jamaica to rebuild a church there. Delmar was always willing to help wherever he was needed. Grateful to have shared his life are his wife, Leona Bacon; children, Janet Brady (Mike), Topeka, Loren Bacon (Kerrie), Topeka, Jeff Bacon (Lori), Tecumseh, and Dennis Bacon (Paula), Baldwin City; grandchildren, Amy Brady (Alan Scherstuhl), Dianne Mallari (David), Anne Hochstein (Brian), Barbara Duncan (Spencer), Joleen Sams (Matt), Jodie Wesner (Pete), Angie Sims (Aaron), Tracie Cazares, Bailey Morrison and Andy Givens: twenty-two very special great-grandchildren, Ava, Sophia, Caleb, Siena, Chaeli, Eliana, Landon, Cohen, Olivia, Connor, Cori, Eve, Harrison, Kynlee, Addisyn, Leightyn, Micah, Billie, Jessie, Jake, Selena and Zaria. Delmar was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Leonard and Alvin, his sister, Rita, and grandson, Aaron Michael Hunt. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 30, from 5 until 7 p.m. at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Grace United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery, Tecumseh.
