Doris Meier

Doris Ann Meier, 86, Topeka, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on November 24, 2023, surrounded by family. Doris was born on July 11, 1937, in Olpe, Kansas. She was the daughter of Andrew F. and Alice Rossillon Lutz. She was valedictorian of her Olpe High School graduating class and graduated in 1959 with a B.A. in Elementary Education from St. Mary College in Leavenworth, Kansas. She taught second and third grade for three and a half years at Highland Park Elementary School in Topeka. In June 1962, Doris married Raymond Meier who was a vegetable farmer and ran a roadside market with his two brothers. They were married for 52 years until his death in 2014. Doris worked in the vegetable market for J.C. Meier and Sons until her retirement in 2015. She loved helping customers and visiting with them. After retirement, Doris volunteered at Corita’s Corner Sandwich Ministry. She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and St. Anthony’s Guild. Doris shared her sewing talents embroidering many beautiful tea towels for the church’s summer social. For the past year and half, Doris lived at Presbyterian Manor and developed many friendships. She enjoyed playing BINGO, putting together puzzles, exercise class, and attending the weekly group rosary. Doris is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Meier, her parents, Andrew and Alice, her brother, David Lutz, sisters, Geneva Lutz OSF and Lila Mullican. Doris is survived by her twin sister, Janice MacConney; children, Dana Meier (Patti), Colleen Jacobs (Jim), Anita Stindt (Bruce), and Katrina Rosebaugh (Raymond); grandchildren, Ben Jacobs (Marlee), Nick Jacobs, Olivia Jacobs, Lauren Allen (Nick), Kendra Raymer (Kyler), Alec Stindt, Jacob Rosebaugh (Kelleen), Alison Kavlick (Thaine) and Caleb Rosebaugh; great-granddaughters, Laken Raymer and Chloe Raymer. Visitation is 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, November 30, at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614, where the rosary will be prayed at 5:30 p.m., led by the family, and a wake service at 6 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, December 1, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 227 SW Van Buren, Topeka KS 66603. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart St. Joseph Catholic Parish and sent in care of the funeral home.
