Esther Hustead

Esther Lorraine Hustead of Topeka, Kansas, 73, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2026, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka with her children by her side. Esther was born on July 31, 1953, in Emporia, Kansas and graduated from Gridley High School in 1971. She graduated from Emporia State University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1975. She married Charles Hustead on March 5, 1977. She worked as a bookkeeper for several companies through her life, including her most recent jobs at Highway Oil and Genstler Eye Center. Esther loved to do arts and crafts, including cross stitch and diamond art, collected salt and pepper shakers of all kinds, liked to collect items with her favorite Winnie the Pooh character Eeyore on them, and had an incredibly large collection of M&M memorabilia. She had numerous M&M shirts and jackets and even dressed as an M&M for Halloween on multiple occasions. Her most treasured possession, however, was the time she spent with family. She was preceded in death by her father, Bob Hursh, mother, Marjorie Hursh, infant brothers, Matthew and Mark, and twin sister, Elsie Stout. She is survived by her husband, Charlie Hustead; her daughter, Lori (Kevin) Daniels; her son, Matt (Kayla) Hustead; grandchildren, Jordan, Logan, Mckenzie, Kamryn, TJ, Simon, and Jaxon; sister, Shelly Gibson; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614. Funeral service will be officiated by her son-in-law, Rev. Kevin Daniels, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 8th at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Rochester Cemetery. Memorials in Esther’s name may be made to The House at Midland Care in Topeka, Kansas, Anchor Church in Lawrence, Kansas, or Holton Baptist Fellowship in Holton, Kansas, in care of the funeral home.
