Gerald "Jerry" Wittman

Gerald “Jerry” Wittman, 82, Topeka, Kansas, beloved husband, father, grandfather and wonderful friend, passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 11, 2024. Jerry was born July 28, 1942, in Topeka to Wendelin and Lidwina Schreiner Wittman. He attended Sacred Heart Grade School, graduated from Hayden High School in 1960 and earned his bachelor’s degree from Rockhurst University. On January 2, 1987, Jerry and the love of his life, his beloved Linda Harris Turgeon were united in marriage, enjoying more than 37 years together. Jerry was a long-time member of Topeka Cosmopolitan Club. He had been a realtor and co-owner of Landmark Realty prior to serving in the position of Executive Director of Topeka Homebuilders Association. Playing golf was a favorite pastime with his great group of friends. Jerry loved being outdoors. He loved to listen to the rain and sitting on his porch liked the soft spray of the rain to reach him. Jerry was funny. He was “king of the one-liners”; he had a million of them and there were always “Jerry Jokes”. He had a generous heart and helped many; if needed he was there. He was well loved by his family and a host of friends. Jerry returned that love. His family was the pride and joy of his life. He will be dearly missed. Grateful to have shared Jerry’s life are his wife, Linda Wittman; his children, Gavin Wittman (Daylene), David Wittman (Lori), Jim Turgeon (Tracey), Tami Zobel (Guy), Mark Turgeon (Ann), Cindi Smith (Rob) and Jennifer Finley (Shawn); 26 grandchildren, Ashlyn Wittman (Jeremy Mansfield), Thomas Wittman (Samone), Jordan Luttman (Nic), Lucas Anderson, Dawson Wittman, Mitchell Wittman (Kelsey), Jacob Wittman, Tommy Turgeon, Taylor Johnson (Jay), Gabe Zobel, Chelsea Zobel, Mickey Zobel, Lily Sarandrea (Nicky), Grace Zobel, Guy Zobel, Jr., Mary Zobel, Will Turgeon, Ella Turgeon, Leo Turgeon, Skylar Smith, Colby Smith (Clare), Dylan Smith, Macy Smith, Peyton Alvarez (Eric), Ellee Heit (Jake) and Lola Finley; nine great-grandchildren; his sister, Marilyn Bennett (Bill); and brother Wayne Wittman. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Elmer Wittman and his former wife, Marcia Peters Wittman. Family will greet friends Sunday, September 15, from 1 until 2:30 p.m. at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614. The rosary will be prayed at 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Christ the King Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Stormont Vail Cancer Center or to Midland Care, sent in care of the funeral home.
