Guy McDonald

Guy F. McDonald, 82, Topeka, Kansas, died Wednesday, August 23, 2023. Guy was born May 5, 1941, to Guy and Louise Hocker McDonald in St. Louis, Missouri. He was a graduate of DuBourg High School and Washington University, St. Louis. He enjoyed two professional careers. His positions with Southwestern Bell included offices in St. Louis, Kansas City, and Des Moines before settling in Topeka. After retiring from AT&T, Guy enjoyed a second career with the Kansas Corporation Commission. Guy served our country in the Air National Guard and enjoyed community involvement on many levels at Most Pure Heart of Mary Church and Hayden Catholic High School as well as volunteering with the Telephone Pioneers. Guy married the love of his life, Kathleen Ann Steffen, on August 29, 1964, in St. Louis. They enjoyed 59 years together. To this union were born three children, Guy McDonald, Jr. of Topeka, Keith McDonald (Jenny) of Alton IL, and Kelly Braden (Jeff) of Liberty MO. He was blessed to be Grandpa to nine granddaughters, Shelby Halsey of Castle Rock CO, Morgan Raines (Darby) of Kansas City MO, Erica Shadle (Ryan) of Bennington NE, Megan McDonald of Duluth MN, Kylie and Kami McDonald of Alton, IL and Emmy, Kate and Laira Braden of Liberty, MO; and Great-Grandpa to, Quinn (deceased), Lenni and Millie Raines, Everett and Amelia Halsey. They were additionally blessed when Guy and Kathleen were chosen by Brady and Sandra Overton as grandparents to their children, Taylor and Stephan of Appleton WI. Guy’s brother, Gary McDonald (Jeanne) of Shelby Township MI also survives, as well as many extended family and friends. The rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m. Friday, September 1, at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614, where visitation will follow until 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, September 2, at Most Pure Heart of Mary Church. Cremation will follow with inurnment in Resurrection Cemetery, St. Louis.
