Inez "Inie" Bland

Inez Lillian Bland, 92, of Topeka, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 26, 2014. Inez was born on December 12, 1921, in Hiawatha KS to Charles and Vera Meyers Strahan. She went to school in Hiawatha and eventually received her BA in Business from Washburn University in 1973. She and Creed Max Bland were united in marriage in St. Joseph MO on August 4, 1948. Inez and Max loved their time living at Lake Perry before moving to Topeka. He preceded her in death on March 10, 1985. Inez had many interests and enjoyed life to the full. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, BPW Topeka Chapter, Moose Lodge Auxiliary, and Inez was the Secretary-Treasurer of the Goodyear Post 2187 for 37 years; an accomplishment which she was duly proud. Inez loved boating, camping, square dancing, traveling and playing cards, most of which she did with Max. She was a tremendous NASCAR fan, especially following Dale Earnhardt Jr. She loved Elvis, was fond of cats and animals, and donated to animal causes of all sorts. Inez was a good friend to all. She had an excellent sense of humor and enjoyed debating politics. Her life’s work for over 30 years was as a utility appraiser for the state of Kansas. Surviving Inez are her nieces, Jodi Pedri, Barbara Kaye, Margaret Miller and Jane Robinson; nephews, David Beecham, Brian Smith, Mark Smith, Michael Kaye, and Bob McMurdo; and sister-in-law Alice McMurdo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Max; her parents; sisters, Stella Pedri, and Carol Nigus; brothers-in-law, Pete Pedri, Glen McMurdo, Floyd Smith, Tom McConnell and Dean Nigus; sister-in-law, Doloris Smith; and niece, Dena Rae Nigus. Special family members to Inez were Bob, Greta, Lindsey, Grant, Jenna and Ethan Stephens. A visitation for Inez will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614. Funeral Service will be Saturday, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Hiawatha Cemetery.
