James C. (Jim) Scott

James C. (Jim) Scott passed away Saturday, October 7, 2006, at home surrounded by family. Jim was born April 17, 1936 at Wetmore KS, the son of Harry and Dorothea Scott. They preceded him in death. He married Henrietta (Hap) Keating September 5, 1955. They had five children; son, Dennis of Topeka; four daughters, Diana and her husband, Pete Gehrt, and their children, Keejet and Caitlyn, of Kansas City, MO and Corey of NY, Julie and her husband, Mike Spangler, and their children, Joshua, Joseph and Jaime, of Topeka, Kim, of Topeka and Jean Scott and her son, Jace Freeman of Topeka. Jim had four brothers and four sisters. Survivors include sisters, Beth Bohannon, Holton, Marvel McDaniel, Winchester, Elaine, and husband, Cletus Suther, New Carlisle OH, and Ruth Glenn of Wetmore; brothers, Bob and wife, Phyllis, Holton, and Mac and wife, Bev, of Houston, TX. Brothers Ivan and Gene preceded him in death, their wives Edith (Belle Plaine) and Billie (Effingham) survive. Other survivors include brothers and sisters-in-laws, Mary Lou Finan, Donald (Bud) Keating, Nila and Hank Graf, Bea and Richard Feleay, Bobbie and Joe Jordan, Kellie Ray and James Keating. Others preceding him in death include, Paul Bohannon, George McDaniel, Art Glenn, Tom Finan, Marge and Ray Fox, Ruth Keating and Gary Ray. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and extended family members. Jim was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 2278 for 50 years. He was a member of Carpenters Union Local, No. 1445 for over 40 years. He took great pride in his involvement in the Moose Lodge #555. He has held numerous positions for the Local Order of the Moose and received the highest honor of the Pilgrim Degree in 1978. He remained active in the Moose Lodge Ritual Team. He considered his fellow Moose members part of his extended family. He was also a volunteer at Let’s Help. Family will greet friends from 4-8 p.m., Tuesday, at Holy Name Catholic Church, 1114 SW 10th St, Topeka. A K of C rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. A Pilgrim Ceremony will be at 7:00 p.m. followed by a parish prayer service, all at the church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Name Church. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Blaine KS at 3:30 p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to Midland Hospice, Let’s Help or Dogs for the Deaf, sent in care of Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Rd, Topeka KS 66614.
