Janice Fletcher

Janice Joy Fletcher, a devoted daughter, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and proud great-grandmother, peacefully passed away Thursday, February 27, 2025. She was born April 24, 1938, in Frederick, Oklahoma. Janice's early years were spent growing up on a farm in Osborne, Kansas just a few blocks from her beloved grandparents, where she cultivated a deep appreciation for family and the simple joys of life. A bright and ambitious student, Janice excelled in high school in Salina, even though her vivacious spirit sometimes led her to skip PE class in favor of climbing trees with her friends. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Kansas, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Fort Hays State University, and a Master’s in Nursing from Wichita State University. Janice's commitment to learning and her passion for caring for others shaped her into a compassionate nurse who touched countless lives throughout her career. She is survived by her children, Linda Werhan (Rod), and Matthew Fletcher (Erin); her seven grandchildren, Aaron Werhan, Lauren Stradinger, Luke Werhan, Zachary Werhan, Maddie Fletcher, Zak Fletcher and Theodore Fletcher; and thirteen great-grandchildren. Each of her family members were blessed by her warmth, wisdom, and the special bond they each shared with her. Janice is preceded in death by her father and mother, Rex and Dorothy Cornwell, and son, Michael Fletcher. At the heart of Janice’s life was her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, which carried her through many trials and tribulations. Her strong faith served as a guiding light, encouraging her family to live with love and integrity; instilling in them the values she held dear. In her later years, Janice explored the stunning beaches of the Bahamas, journeyed twice to Israel, and participated in a medical missions’ trip in the Dominican Republic, where she helped provide essential care to those in need. Her generous spirit and her ability to spread joy and hope made a lasting impact on all who knew her. Janice's laughter and love will be profoundly missed. To honor her life, a visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2025, with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m., at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614, where family and friends will remember the beautiful impact she made on all of our lives. Committal service will be at 12 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2025, at Osborne Cemetery in Osborne, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ascend Hospice Care in her honor, in care of the funeral home. Janice will forever remain in our hearts a shining example of love, generosity, and joy.
