Joey Bahner

Joey Gus Bahner, 81, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2025. Joey was born in Wamego, Kansas, on December 27, 1943, named after his two grandfathers. He was the seventh of nine boys to Raymond and Lydia Bahner. He graduated in 1961 from Paxico Rural High School where he was a standout basketball player. He attended Clarks School of Business. Joey married Mary Rebecca “Becky” Kolde at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newbury, Kansas, in 1963. They were blessed with three children: Brent, Ray, and Kristie. Joey and Becky were married for 62 years. Most of Joey’s career was in housing and finance, working at Victory Life Insurance Company, Griffith & Blair Realtors, Peoples Savings and Loan, Resolution Trust Corporation, and the Kansas Department of Housing & Commerce. Joey enjoyed participating in and watching sports. He especially loved watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports and activities. He loved his family very much. In retirement, he enjoyed mowing on his zero-turn lawn mowers, gardening, feeding his birds, and repairing riding lawn mowers. Joey is survived by his wife, Becky, their children, Brent (Lisa) Bahner, Ray (Shelly) Bahner, and Kristie (Juan) De La Garza; brother, Tom (Kathy) Bahner; his grandchildren, Austin, Bailey, Carly, Davis, Victoria, Nicholas, Ana; and his great-grandchildren, Tayler and Laken; and one great-grandchild on the way. Joey is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Lydia Bahner, and his brothers, Don, Darrell, Glenn, Delbert, Larry, Ken, and Bob. Joey and his family are appreciative of the excellent and compassionate care provided by Midland Care Hospice. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. with memorial service to follow at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614. Graveside service and Inurnment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Newbury.
