Kathleen Turner

Kathleen “Kathy” Turner, 75, Topeka, Kansas, passed away at her home February 9, 2022. Kathy was born September 19, 1946, in Great Bend, Kansas to Wilbur and Margaret MacDonald Alexander. She was a 1965 graduate of Topeka West High School and earned a Bachelor of Education from Washburn University in 1985. Kathy attended Bible College and served in various ministries throughout her life. In recent years, she was a member of Topeka Bible Church. Kathy was a prayer warrior and had a devout love of Jesus which she shared with those she met along the way. Although employed by the State of Kansas until retirement, Kathy’s true legacy was teaching. While working for the state, Kathy also worked with individuals with disabilities. She educated adults to remain as independent as possible at home and in the community. When Kathy retired from the state, she recertified as a K-12 teacher, and taught in Kansas City and then in Topeka. Kathy had a soft and compassionate heart for adults with special needs and children in the classroom, as well as her own three children at home. Kathy was a creative and accomplished artisan. Through the years she painted, sculpted, drew and sketched, completed several quilts, hand crafted clothing, completed several wood carvings, and a plethora of ceramics. All of which she leaves to her family to cherish. Kathleen’s survivors include her daughter, Valerie Mize and her husband, Michael; son, Gavin Turner and his wife, Katie, all of Topeka; grandchildren, Lucie and Simon Mize, Zoe Turner, Connor Glasscock, Claire Glasscock, Jacob Turner and Alice Turner; her sister, Marla Leise, Olympia WA; sisters-in-law, Debbie Alexander, Henderson NV and Terri Alexander, Phoenix AZ; and many nieces and nephews. Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Jason Turner, and brothers, Vance Kevin Alexander and Vale Alexander. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, March 28, at Topeka Bible Church, 1101 SW Mulvane Street, in the Parlor.
