Kipley Slattery

Kipley Alan "Kip" Slattery, 68, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2026. Kip was born on December 25, 1957, in Dodge City, Kansas, to John Gerald and Rita Ann Lohner Slattery. He attended St. Andrew School in Wright, Kansas, Dodge City High School, Dodge City Community College, and the University of Kansas. Kip married the love of his life, Sherry Ann Gabel, on April 20, 1985, in Fowler, Kansas. They had four children and recently celebrated 41 wonderful years of marriage. A man of deep faith, Kip was a devoted member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Church for 40 years, serving on many of the school and church committees. He was an original guardian of the MPHM Adoration Chapel, faithfully serving for 36 years, and he loved spending his holy hour in the chapel every Monday night. Kip spent most of his career at Luminous Neon, Inc., working there for 30-plus years, before joining Cope Plastics as Branch Manager of Topeka, where he went on to lead the move to the new Lenexa location. He later retired after nine years at Cope Plastics. Though he only had a year and three months to enjoy retirement, he made the most of it — checking "visiting Ireland" off the top of his bucket list. Kip was a "jack of all trades" around the house, never shying away from a project no matter the size. He loved the outdoors — hiking mountain trails, snow skiing in Colorado, golfing as often as he could, cheering on KU in every sport, and doing it all with his family. Kip was a kind, hardworking, and loving man, and nothing brought him more joy than being "Papa" to J.T. and A.J. As his four boys grew up, Kip volunteered to coach every single year, dedicating himself to a variety of sports along the way, especially baseball. It was one more way he showed up for his family, season after season. Kip was a 25-year member of the Topeka South Rotary, serving as its President from 2011 to 2012 and receiving the TSR Paul Harris Fellow recipient award. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, a Meals on Wheels volunteer, and a member of the Northeast Kansas Football League (NKFL) board since its inception 20 years ago, having recently been elected President of the Board. Kip is survived by his wife, Sherry Slattery, of Topeka; his children, Kayle (Carly) Slattery of Olathe, Kansas, Kolton Slattery of Topeka, Konner John Slattery of Littleton, Colorado, and Karson Slattery of Denver, Colorado; his grandchildren, John Theodore “J.T.” and Anderson Joseph “A.J.” Slattery, of Olathe; his siblings, Michael (Ione) Slattery of Hays, Kansas, Deb (Les) Stein of Hartford, Kansas, Joe (Nola) Slattery of San Francisco, California, Terry (Stana) Slattery of Dodge City, Doug (Cindy) Slattery of La Crosse, Kansas, and Neal (Carolyn) Slattery of Smolan, Kansas. Kip was preceded in death by his parents, John and Rita Slattery, and his brother, John Byron "J.B." Slattery, and sister-in-law, Tami (Graf) Slattery. Rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m. Friday, July 10, 2026, at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614, where a celebration of Kip’s life will immediately follow and visitation will be until 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 3601 SW 17th Street, Topeka KS 66604.
