Linda Lawlor

Linda Lee Lawlor, 82, of Topeka, Kansas for the last nine years and formerly of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Ralston, Nebraska passed away July 29, 2024, at the Healthcare Resort of Topeka. She was a member of Sacred Heart-St. Joseph Catholic Parish in Topeka and formerly a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Council Bluffs. Linda was born on January 13, 1942, to Irene and Henry Risley in Ralston, Nebraska. She graduated from Ralston High School in 1960 and Peru State College with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. Linda worked as a teacher in Julesburg, Colorado, Bloomfield, Iowa and Council Bluffs. Linda loved teaching in elementary schools and has touched numerous lives. She loved her Nebraska Cornhuskers, golf, and was active in volunteering at Hospice, leading bereavement groups, and the MICA house. Linda never met a stranger. Everyone that knew Linda loved her. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren brought her so much joy. Her friends were also such an important part of her life as she always talked about the pancake group, Sunday brunch after Mass, game nights with her friends and her golf leagues. Linda was preceded in death by her husband, William Lawlor; daughter, Kelly Sangster; parents, Irene and Henry Risley; stepfather, Edward Bourbeau; sisters, Guelda (Norman) Huebner, Marilyn (Ray) Selk; and stepsister, Ann (Bill) Whitfield. Linda is survived by her son, Dennis (Jolene) Lawlor, of Topeka; son-in-law, Bill Sangster of Missouri Valley, Iowa; grandchildren, Christa (Kevin) Ziegler, Celine (Raymond) Gragg, Jacob Sangster, Tim Sangster, Mary Lawlor, Katherine Sangster, Monica (Mike) Sangster, and Raven (Grant) Appelberg; great-grandchildren, Harper, Haddie, Hazley, Houston and Lakelyn; brother-in-law, Tom Lawlor; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 9 to 10 a.m. Friday, August 2, 2024, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 312 NE Freeman Ave, Topeka KS 66616, where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
