Margaret "Mickey" Eichkorn

Margaret Louise Tesi Eichkorn, 74, Topeka, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at St. Luke’s Hospital, surrounded by her family. Mickey was born March 15, 1943, in Topeka, the daughter of Guido and Margaret Hesse Tesi. She graduated from Washburn Rural High School in 1961 and the Stormont-Vail School of Nursing in 1964. Growing up, Mickey loved her music and enjoyed playing the accordion. It was this passion for music that brought her together with the love of her life. On August 22, 1964, Mickey and Robert “Ike” Eichkorn were united in marriage and enjoyed over 51 years together. He preceded her in death on January 2, 2016. In 1959, Mickey and Bob played accordions with the symphony in Carnegie Hall and in the US Capitol. In 2011, they played in the 50th Anniversary Concert which marked the final concert of the UMKC Accordion Orchestra. Mickey was a registered nurse and worked for Stormont-Vail Hospital. She was known as the “official neighborhood nurse” and enjoyed traveling to the Ozarks with Bob, league bowling, swimming and most importantly spending time with her family. Mickey was a dedicated and loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed. Grateful to have shared her life are her sons, John Eichkorn (Heidi), Brett Eichkorn (Beth) and Robert Eichkorn (Kristi); 12 grandchildren, Matthew, Carlie, Paige, Collin, Macey, Megan (Josh), Jake, Ryan, Dominik, Kaya and Keegan; her mother, Margaret Tesi; siblings, Carol Merrell (Paul), Patrick Tesi (Alice), Nancy Patton (David) and Michael Tesi (Julie); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mickey was also preceded in death by her father, Guido Tesi, in 2015. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 18, 2017, at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614, with visitation one hour prior to service. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. in Leavenworth National Cemetery. A special “Thank you!” from the Eichkorn family to the doctors, nurses and support staff in the Neuroscience ICU at St. Luke’s Hospital in KCMO for the exemplary and compassionate care they provided. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Luke’s College, to be used for nursing students at St. Luke's, sent in care of the funeral home.
