Margaret Walters

Margaret Rose Walters, 96, Topeka, Kansas, beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully following a short illness, Wednesday, July 15, 2026. On January 22, 1930, Margaret was born to John and Philomena Rupp Leiker in Hays, Kansas and grew up just south of there in Munjor, Kansas, where she attended school. Margaret and Daniel J. Walters were united in marriage on August 21, 1950, enjoying more than 45 years together prior to his death on May 18, 1996. Margaret was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She was devoted to her faith and her family. Employed as a clothing coordinator at KNI, she returned to volunteer there as a foster grandmother for many years after her retirement. Margaret was kind and had a habit of going over her monthly calendar to make sure she always acknowledged the birthdays of her family and friends. She was a wonderful hostess and an excellent cook and baker, especially of pies and cookies. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Danny Walters (Janeen), Marybeth Cassidy (Joe), and Jeffrey Jon Walters; grandchildren, Patrick (July), Thomas (Jane), and Connor (Teresa) Cassidy, Aaron McCuiston (Carla), Shelly Henley (Fred), Justin and Sean Walters; great-grandchildren, Sidney and Olivia Henley, Lillian, Xavier, Benjamin and Madeline Cassidy, Luna and Joseph Cassidy, Michaela and Alyssa McCuiston, and Alora and Dorian Walters. Margaret was also preceded in death by her son, David Walters, her grandson, Jeremy Walters,. and all nine of her siblings. Visitation will be Monday, July 20, at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614, from 5 until 6 p.m. Eulogies will be given at 6 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. when the Rosary will be prayed. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
