Marie Lilian Anderson

Marie Lilian (Savory) Anderson, 80, of Topeka, passed away peacefully at The Midland House after a brief illness, on Sunday, December 7, 2014. Marie was born on May 12, 1934, in Norwich, Norfolk, England, the daughter of Cyril Gordon and Amelia Richenda Mary (Steward) Savory. She met her husband, Lawrence John Anderson, in England in 1951, while he was serving in the United States Air Force there. They returned to the States and were married in Riverside, California, on June 22, 1953, where they resided for a year before settling in Topeka, Kansas, Lawrence’s home state. Lawrence preceded her in death on February 13, 2005. Marie worked at Hallmark’s in Topeka for a short time and was a bookkeeper for her husband’s tax and accounting business for many years. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker, raising nine children. She also was a childcare provider in her home for many years and provided childcare to many of her grandchildren. Marie was a member of Mater Dei Catholic Parish, previously Holy Name Catholic Church. She also was a long-time member of the British Wives Club and Laugh A Lot Sewing Club in Topeka. She was a talented seamstress, making many dresses for her daughters when they were young and later making many beautiful quilts and blankets which were donated to community outreach programs for young mothers. She was very creative and made many crafts and florals for her children over the years. She also enjoyed crocheting and knitting and created many beautiful blankets for her grandchildren. She is survived by her nine children, Mary (Randy) Clinton of Arlington TX; Kathy (Jim) Brooks of Keller, TX; Linda (David) Kaberline of McKinney, TX; Lawrence Anderson of Aliso Viejo, CA; Dr. Deborah Anderson of Topeka; Cheryl (Ernie) Wood of Topeka; Tammy (Randy) Guffey-Morgan of Topeka; Janel (Niles) Brandstoettner of Topeka; Danette Wood of Topeka; and her 28 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her two sisters, Kathleen Joan (Glendon) Klossner of St. James, MO; Teresa (Jimmy) Dye of Norwich, Norfolk, England; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Savory of Norwich, Norfolk, England; Joan Frost of Merseyside, Liverpool, United Kingdom; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Cyril & Amelia Savory; her brothers, Michael Savory of Norwich, Norfolk, England; Peter Frost of Merseyside, Liverpool, United Kingdom. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, with a parish rosary at 6 p.m. at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 S.W. Urish Road, Topeka, KS 66614. Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 p.m. Friday at Mater Dei Holy Name Catholic Church, 1114 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, KS 66604. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
