Marina Rosales Barrios

Marina Rosales Berduo de Barrios, also lovingly called “Mamita Mari” by her family, of age 80, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2023, at KU Medical Center. She was born on October 19, 1942, to Alfredo Rosales Silva and Dolores Berduo Rodriguez in Santa Lucia Cotzumalguapa, Escuintla, Guatemala. Marina led a remarkable life filled with family, love, laughter, faith in God, compassion, and lots of flowers!! She truly touched the hearts of all who knew her and will be dearly missed. Her greatest joys in her life were family, the gospel of Jesus Christ, cooking, gardening, traveling, and making sure everyone knew she cared for them. She is survived by her sons, Gioheldi Gamaliel Barrios Rosales, Jorge Barrios Rosales, Gelman Alfredo Barrios Rosales, Oswaldo Osbeli “Lee” Barrios Rosales, her daughters Zandra Mariela Barrios Rosales de Velasquez, Rosalva Barrios Rosales de Garcia, her son in law Joel Garcia Cuellar, and daughter in law Teresa Molina. Her grandkids, Dulce Cadogan, Idania Sanchez, Marlyn Loreny Thomas, Samuel David Velasquez Barrios, Blessing Velasquez Barrios, Lesly Rosalva Sandoval, Marilyn Raquel Garcia Barrios, Joel Esteban Garcia Barrios, Carlos Gioheldi Barrios Molina, Jorge Barrios Molina, Julisa Barrios Molina, Krystel Barrios Molina, Joshua Delacruz, Jonathan Delacruz, Saritah Delacruz-Corea, Issaic Delacruz. Her great grandkids, Ziraili Sanchez, Jeziah Sanchez, Aiden Thomas, Elaina Thomas, Zoe Cadogan, Abigail Cadogan, and Valery Barrios Sotay. All of them were her pride and joy. They were all loved very much by Marina. She will be remembered by her fervent faith in God, her favorite sayings in Spanish “si comienzas algo, debes hacerlo hasta el final” and “si queriamos lograr tener algo en la vida, debiamos de esforzarnos y salir adelante y no quedarnos sin hacer nada” (translation: “if you start something, you must follow through till it is done” “if you want something in life, you must apply yourself, work hard to obtain it, instead of doing nothing about it), by the colorful dresses she wore, she often referred to them as cheerful colors, her loved for planting flowers, her thoughtfulness towards others – she often gifted dresses to her daughters and granddaughters because she believed they will fit great on them, her funny jokes, and the yummy food she happily prepared for everyone in her family. Marina had a heart of gold and was known for her generosity. If she knew you needed something she will find ways to help you get what you needed. Sometimes that meant making her yummy Guatemalan tamales, yummy Guatemalan empanadas, and delicious salsa to sell so she could help meet that need with the earnings from her food sales. Marina's family will say that she was a remarkable individual who lived life with unwavering dedication and an unyielding spirit. She possessed strong convictions that guided her through every facet of life, always standing firm in her beliefs and values. Her love for life was infectious, as she approached each day with enthusiasm and a zest for experiencing all that it had to offer. Marinacherished every moment spent with her loved ones, and her presence radiated warmth and love. She relished family gatherings, where laughter, stories, jokes, yummy food, and even trails of life were shared and that brought everyone closer together. Throughout her life, Marina faced numerous challenges, but she was the embodiment of resilience and tenacity. She never gave up, even in the face of adversity, serving as an inspiration to all who knew her. 2 Nephi 31:20 "Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men. Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eternal life." The family would like to express their gratitude to the medical staff at KU Medical Center for their compassionate care during this difficult time. Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, September 21, 2023, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3611 SW Jewell Avenue, Topeka KS 66611. Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Church. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.
