Martha Watkins-Miller

Martha Jane Watkins-Miller, 68, Topeka, Kansas, passed away at her home Sunday, August 14, 2022. Martha was born May 16, 1954, on Scott AFB, Shiloh, Illinois, the daughter of Mayo Mitchell Sr. and Betty Graves Mitchell. She was a 1972 graduate of Highland Park High School and attended Washburn University. Martha and Konard Miller were united in marriage in 2002; he died July 17, 2005. She was a server at Grover’s Smokehouse, completed alterations for a downtown dry cleaner, was an Avon Representative and worked nights at Topeka State Hospital. When she was employed by the Menniger Clinic, Martha worked her way up from being a temporary employee to eventually retiring as the Manager of the Housekeeping Department. In retirement she continued being of service as a caregiver to an individual. Martha enjoyed crocheting and sewing bibs and blankets for each new baby. She liked romance novels, fishing, gardening and flowers, but more than anything else she loved her family, taking much delight in her grandbabies. Martha will be greatly missed. Grateful to have shared Martha’s life are her children, Stephan Watkins, Jr., Michael Watkins, Daniele Watkins, James Roberts-Watkins and Dwayne Roberts; grandchildren, TaShaira Watkins, Timothy Watkins, Stephan Watkins, Aniya Watkins, Aja’nique Tejada, Xavier Watkins, Kalea Santos-Watkins, Airihana Watkins, Kyrie Watkins and Dwayne Roberts, Jr.; great-granddaughter, Aurélia Tejada; her siblings, Ilona Dorsey (Michael), Mayo Mitchell, Jr. and Amanda Mitchell. Martha was also preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Dorothy Scott, Jean Mitchell and Mary Mitchell; nephew, Justice Mitchell; niece, Staff Sgt. Jessica Mitchell; and a great-niece, Elizabeth A. Mitchell-Cox-El. Visitation will be Sunday, August 21, from 9 to 10 a.m. at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614, where Martha’s funeral service will be at 10 a.m. and will be livestreamed on the funeral home Facebook page.
