Martina Reilly

Martina Marie Reilly 98, née McDonald, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 10, 2026. Mrs. Reilly was born on January 31, 1928, on a farm outside Monticello, Iowa, to Martin and Marie McDonald. A child of the Great Depression, Mrs. Reilly grew up in a close-knit Irish Catholic family with her five siblings, Margaret, Leo, Kathleen, Betty, and Denny. After graduating from Coggon High School, Mrs. Reilly moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she worked for Northwestern Bell. It was there she met and subsequently fell in love with Phil Reilly. They were married on October 12, 1957, beginning a union that would span over 67 years and cross three states. The Reilly family moved to Topeka in 1963. After giving birth to her sixth child in 1969, Mrs. Reilly worked as a bookkeeper for many years. First for Joe White’s IGA and then for Binkley’s Tire and Service Centers. Mrs. Reilly was a nurturing wife and mother who exuded kindness, grace, faith, loyalty, and tenderness. She was the embodiment of love, defined by her selflessness and unwavering care for others. Because of these qualities, the Reilly home was a welcome place for all visitors, serving as a regular hangout for her children’s friends, and then later for grandchildren and great grandchildren. When you were in Mrs. Reilly’s presence, it was as if heaven blew in and though she is greatly missed, she has left memories that will span years, decades, lifetimes. Mrs. Reilly is survived by her children, Tom, Anne (Ron), Jim, Rob (Traci), Mary, Paul (Vanessa); grandchildren, Adam, Conor (Rhyanna), Jenna (Colin), Nathan (Jacque), Luke (Erika), Ryan (Britney), Brigid, Mike (Grace), and Jordan (Nikolai); great-grandchildren, Lincoln, Maye, Penny, Mauer, and Olivia, with two more greats due later this month; her beloved sister and life-long best friend, Betty Naylor; and very special sister-in-law, Sally Reilly. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; siblings Margaret Murphy, Leo McDonald, Kathleen Tjaden, and Dennis McDonald; brothers-in-law, Richard Tjaden, Jerry Naylor, Raymond “Bud” Reilly, Louis “Louie” Reilly, and Len Super; and sisters-in-law, Edna McDonald, Mary Super, and Bernadette “Bonnie” Reilly. The Rosary will be prayed at 9:30 a.m. Friday, August 21, 2026, at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 3601 SW 17th Street, Topeka KS 66604, where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
