Mary Livergood

Mary Lee Schultz Livergood died Sunday, September 11, 2022, in Topeka, Kansas of a heart attack. Mary was born to Berdine Schultz McConnell and Gerhardt Schultz on February 6, 1950, in Norfolk, Nebraska. She moved to Topeka, as a young girl, graduating from Topeka Lutheran School and Highland Park High School. Mary also graduated from Cliff Manning School of Design in Denver, Colorado. Jim and Mary Livergood were married on September 6, 1969, and enjoyed 52 years of marriage until his death on July 19, 2022. After marrying and moving internationally with the Air Force, Jim and Mary eventually moved to Colorado. Mary is survived by her daughters, Carisa Sims (Tom Lemon) and Angela Livergood; grandchildren, Sydney, Sloane, Cody, Ethan, and Bentley; great-grandchildren, Marley and Legend; her brothers, Gary (Robin) Schultz, Bill (Mary Kay) Schultz; and sister, Sue McWilliams. She was preceded in death by both of her parents and her stepfather John McConnell. Mary was a floral designer for over 50 years. She could find beauty in nearly everything. Mary’s skill was uncanny and nearly magical. Mary was the quintessential Air Force wife. When the call came, she was always ready to pack up and move. When Jim went on TDY, she stayed home and held down the fort. Mary loved her children and grandchildren. She was selfless. She would sacrifice her own needs to provide anything her children or grandchildren needed. This kindness extended to the rest of her friends and family, consistently. Much like her talent with flowers, Mary could take something that had been thrown away and turn it into the most beautiful decoration, useful piece of furniture or art. She made it look easy when for most it was quite difficult. Although she worked full time, as a florist and manager, until earlier this year, she would always find time to drive throughout Kansas and Missouri to help or see a friend, relative and certainly a grandchild. Each of her grandchildren will miss her deeply for many different reasons. A celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 16, 2022, in the mausoleum at Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka.
