Mary Lou Kiene

Mary Lou Condron Kiene, 98, of Topeka, Kansas, died peacefully on July 28, 2025. Mary Lou was a devoted wife to the late Bill Kiene. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Mary Lou was very close to her sisters. They were fondly referred to as “the Condron girls” or the “Gabor sisters.” Mary Lou was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on January 14, 1927, the daughter of Joseph William Condron and Mary Josephine Condron. Mary Lou lived most of her life in Topeka, Kansas with the exception of a few years when she lived in Wichita, Kansas. She graduated from Wichita East High School and Washburn University. Mary Lou was a member of Delta Phi Delta art fraternity and the Delta Gamma social sorority. Mary Lou was among the first members of Most Pure Heart of Mary Church and was an active member for many years. After graduating from Washburn University, she taught art and English at Madison High School until she married. Mary Lou also worked for many years as an interior designer for The Design Forum. She was a former member of the Topeka Country Club and was very active for years at the Mulvane Art Museum. Mary Lou was a devoted Kansas Jayhawk, rarely missing a game on television. Mary Lou was married to the love of her life, William “Bill” Kiene for 30 years. Bill preceded her in death in 1979. Mary Lou and Bill were blessed with three children. Mary Lou loved art and the beauty it brought into the world. She cherished her family; she loved God passionately and her Catholic faith dearly. We can rest assured that Jesus welcomed her into heaven and we can anticipate that she had a joyful reunion with her loved ones. Mary Lou is survived by her daughter, Carol (Hugh) McCoy of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; her son, Matthew (Theresa) Kiene of Los Angeles, California; and her daughter, Annette Kiene of Hermosa Beach, California; grandchildren, Kirsten (Randy) Slaton, Kimberly McCoy, Olivia Kiene, Isabella Kiene and Clara Kiene; one great grandchild, William “Will” Szewczyk; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Josephine Condron; her husband, Bill; sisters, Janice Remmele and Carolyn Blair; brothers-in-law, Fritz Remmele, Merle Blair and Max Kiene; sister-in-law, Liz Kiene; parents-in-law, Edward “Ed” and Bertha Kiene; as well as many dear friends. Visitation will be 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 3601 SW 17th Street, Topeka KS 66604, where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Inurnment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
