Matthew John Flower

Matthew John Flower, 21, Topeka, passed on December 24, 2004 at his home in Ozawkie. He was born May 3, 1983, at the KU Medical Center in Kansas City, KS, the son of Earl and Sandra Folds Flower. He attended Assumption Grade School, graduated from Hayden High School and graduated from Highland Community College in 2003. He was currently attending Washburn University earning a communications and mass media degree. As a student at Assumption, Matthew was greatly influenced by his mentors, Sr. Corita and Sr. Marjorie, and his many teachers. He was involved in many sports, but most loved being on the Tornadoes baseball team with all of his friends. Matthew was an altar boy at his home parish of St. Joseph and at the Assumption. At Hayden High School, he was involved in many things. He loved football, wrestling and baseball. He was a member of the forensics team and participated in the school plays and musicals. While attending Highland, Matty Boy was in numerous theatrical productions and was voted Homecoming King. Also while at Highland, Matthew met the love of his life, Rachell, with whom he planned to spend his life. Matty loved being involved with his uncles and cousins and the Flower Brothers Racing Team. He was employed at Pearson in Lawrence and Napa North. Matty lived life to the fullest and loved life with every breath he took. Matthew’s love was just as he was, very large and expansive. Everyone who knew Matthew couldn’t help but love him. He always put a smile on their face. Matthew is survived by his parents, Earl and Sandra, Ozawkie; his twin brother, Mitchell, who attends Benedictine College in Atchison; his grandfather, John Folds; his grandmother, Jackie Flower; and his great-grandmother, Margaret Henderson, all of Topeka. He is survived also by his girlfriend, Rachell Huber, Sabetha; and his kitty, Fat Cat. Matthew was preceded in death by a sister, Jennifer; his grandmother, Anna Folds; grandfather, Robert Flower; and his great-aunt Marie Burghart. Matthew will lie in state and family will greet friends from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, where a rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Church. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Family suggests contributions to the Matthew Flower Memorial Fund at Silver Lake Bank.
