Mildred "Millie" Landry

Mildred “Millie” Joan Landry was born on February 26, 1943, in Topeka, Kansas, to Anthony P. Kamer and Antonina M. Gerhardt Kamer. She passed away on August 16, 2026. She was loved and cared for at home by her family until her peaceful passing. Millie attended Sacred Heart Grade School and later Hayden High School. She eventually met her husband, Normand J. Landry, Sr., while he was stationed at Forbes Air Force Base. She married Norm on June 18, 1960, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Topeka. Throughout their Air Force life, Millie lived in many states, including three tours in Guam. Millie attended Riverside City College in California, studying for an eventual career at Riverside General Hospital, where she worked in labor and delivery. Millie had a gift for caring for others, and nothing made her happier than caring for newborns and her beloved family at home. Anyone who knew Millie also knows she was a wonderful cook. She filled hearts and made faces smile with this passion, leaving behind a recipe book full of delicious dishes. Millie was able to return to Topeka after Norm retired from the Air Force in 1977. She continued her passion for caring for others by operating a home daycare once she was reestablished in Topeka. Millie met and cared for many over the years, and her love and compassion were felt by all—especially by her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Millie prided herself on being a homemaker among the many roles she fulfilled in her life. Millie was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, one brother, two sisters, and her parents. She is survived by her four children: Renee Smith (Robert), Michelle Valentine (Larry), Annette Shirrell (Ron), and Normand Landry, Jr. (Donna); 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. A rosary will be prayed at 9:30 a.m., where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 24, 2026, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 312 NE Freeman, Topeka KS 66616. She will be laid to rest at Holy Trinity Mausoleum at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 801 SW Westchester Road., Topeka KS 66606.
