Nancy Hanlon Ridgway

Nancy Dianne Hanlon Ridgway, 95, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2025. Nancy was born to Marion and Fernando Benedict “Bun” Hanlon on November 25, 1929, in Coffeyville, Kansas. She attended Monte Cassino Catholic School in Tulsa, OK followed by Kansas State University where her treasured lifelong friendships with her Tri Delta sisters began. Nancy worked at Boeing Airlines until she married the love of her life, John Joseph “Jack” Ridgway, Jr., also from Coffeyville. Jack chose a career in the US Army and Nancy lived an adventuresome life as an Army officer’s wife and loving mother to eight children. Throughout their life, they managed an impressive eighteen moves, including two tours in Germany. She made each destination an opportunity to create a loving home and new adventures. She lived in service to her family, church, and community. Nancy was an ongoing Den Mother, Girl Scout Leader, Religious Education Teacher, and very active School Volunteer. She was an avid bridge player and loved to play golf, marshalling at three PGA events. Nancy was a hostess extraordinaire at many military coffees, dinners, promotional events, and fundraisers. She mentored new military wives and was instrumental in the development of scholarship programs and countless other causes. Nancy Hanlon Ridgway is survived by her loving children; Kathleen R. Urbom, John Joseph Ridgway III, Eileen and Leo Holmes, Patricia and Tim Tippit, Michael T. Ridgway, Molly R. Longmore, Bill P. Ridgway, and David H. Ridgway. She was blessed with 24 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren, all who cherished and adored her as Grammy and Grandmother. Nancy is pre-deceased by her beloved husband, Col. John J. Ridgway Jr. Retired, her parents Bun and Marion Hanlon, sister Mary Helen Bennett, brothers Thomas Hanlon and James Hanlon, son-in-law Paul V. Urbom, and great-granddaughter Maisy Anne Hartmann. The Ridgway family would like to acknowledge and share grateful appreciation for Complete OK Health Care and Morada Retirement Memory Care Facility, Lawton, OK for their personalized attention and care. The rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Monday, January 27, 2025, at Holy Name Catholic Church, 408 Willow Street, Coffeyville, KS 67337, where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Coffeyville. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Name Catholic Church.
