Todd Hazard

Todd Evan Hazard of Wakarusa, KS., died Thursday, July 27, 2023, surrounded by his family. Todd was 65 years old. Todd was born in Tacoma, Washington, while his late father, SG. Hazard Jr. was stationed at Ft. Lewis with his late wife, Lois Ann (Steadman) Hazard. The family chose to settle in Topeka, KS when Todd was about 2 years old and welcomed his brother Stuart a few years later. The family has continued to live in Topeka and Wakarusa. Todd graduated from Topeka West High School in 1976. He attended trade school in Salina, KS., graduating with a degree in Heavy Equipment Mechanics. He later when on to graduate from Baker University with a bachelor’s degree in business. Todd's career centered around Heavy equipment. He started his career at Sellers Equipment and then went to work for Martin Tractor. His work took him to a job in Kansas City with GW Van Keppel, and that job returned him to Topeka. He then retired from Shawnee County. Todd had been a Heavy Equipment Technician, PSSR, Quary Supply Sales, Equipment Sales, and Service Manager Todd married Jane Hazard and they had two wonderful boys, Aron and Alex. Todd relished being a dad, spending a lot of time teaching the boys about fishing, hunting, motorcycles, and the outdoors. Todd married Katherine M. Hazard (Haupt) in September 2012 and welcomed Kathy's daughter Brittney Jones (Nicholson) into the family. Todd and Kathy traveled together and had a fantastic life full of laughter, love, family, friends, and food. At one point, Todd and Kathy had a carwash in Auburn, KS, and still manage an active vineyard on their property. Todd loved the outdoors and stayed busy loving his family and caring for the farm. Todd realized his dream of living with Kathy, family, and friends in their beautiful home in Wakarusa. When Todd retired from Shawnee County at 62, staying busy was his goal, and no grass grew under his feet. He spent most of his time fishing. Todd went on several guided trips to Kentucky, Texas, Florida, Michigan, and Canada. He was so excited to get his boat after retirement and had a great time taking family and friends fishing. Todd loved a variety of subjects and could strike up a conversation with anyone – he never met a stranger. Whenever anyone was at home, he always made sure there was plenty of food for everyone. He was an expert at smoking meat on the Traeger and loved to keep his family well fed. Todd was preceded in death by his parents, Lois and SG. Todd is survived by his wife, Katherine Hazard, of the home, his sons, Aron Hazard (and Mel), Alex Hazard (and Ashley), his bonus daughter, Brittney Jones (and Caleb), and his brother Stuart (and Kelli). Also surviving are his bonus son, Dalton Larios (Hannah), and bonus daughter Jaid Larios. His grandchildren were the love of his life. He is also survived by his grandchildren Stella Gordon, Fisher Hazard, Lily Hazard, and Easton Jones. He also is survived by five bonus grandchildren Chris Connell (Aly), Dawson Connell, and Braden Connell, Edith and Ike Larios. Friends will greet the family from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., August 4, 2023, at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka, KS 66614. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations, or as Todd would call it, ”minnow money,” to Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home to help cover expenses.
