York William Haines, 45, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2020. Born to Roy Jr. and Lorna Holsapple Haines on April 30, 1975, in Topeka, Kansas, York attended Holy Name Grade School, Hayden High School, graduated from Shawnee Heights High School in 1993 and played baseball at Allen County Community College. Beginning his technical career at Datatel in Topeka, York honed his skills and worked as an independent contractor in IT technology. He enjoyed fishing, twice catching that year’s state record for the largest bass and another year the largest carp. York liked to laugh and tell jokes, was a huge Royals and Chiefs fan, liked tall, frosty beers and loved his family, friends and his beloved dogs. Among those grateful to have shared York’s life are his mother, Lorna Haines Larson (Steve); sister, Heather Strecker (Scott); brother, Quentin Haines (Cyndi); nephews and nieces, Jachob, Jensenn, Sam, Max, Ben, Aden, Grace, Roby and Hudson; his former spouse, Hannah Titus; his companion, Deb Bennett; uncles, aunts, cousins; and many friends from all walks of life. York was preceded in death by his father, Roy Haines, Jr., his maternal grandparents, Grandma Lavinia and Papa Charles Holsapple; his paternal grandparents, Roy, Sr. and Patricia Haines; and his beloved dogs, Berkly and Cottee. A Celebration of Life for York will be held this Friday, August 14th 5:30-9:30 pm at Lake Shawnee Shelter House #6 3521 SE East Edge Rd. Food & Drinks will be provided. We are doing this York’s way.....Memories, food, beer, laughter! If you have favorite pictures of York, please share them here and we will have them printed for the celebration. We will also be doing a balloon send off and an open mic time where anyone is welcome to share memories of York. Bring your yard games, footballs, etc. for the kids if you would like. There is plenty of space indoors and out to social distance. Mask wearing is highly encouraged when not distanced. Please bring your lawn chairs! Thank you all so much for the prayers and kind words for York over these last few days. The outpouring of support and the memories being shared mean so much to us all.
