Charles Walters, Topeka, passed away peacefully at Tammy The Pro Home Plus Care on March 27, 2022. Charles was born July 18, 1930, the son of Edward and Lucinda Badgley Walter. The family moved around until he was 13, when they settled in Wichita. Charles started working at 15 harvesting grain. He married Phyllis Vandaveer on December 5, 1948; she was 16 and he was 18. They were married for 63 years before she preceded him in death in 2016. The first few years of their marriage, Charles and Phyllis travelled wherever there was storm work to be done. In 1955, they settled in Topeka, where Charles began as a salesman and worked his way up until he owned his own business, Walters, Co. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, playing cards and riding his Harley Davidson on road trips. Charles is survived by sons, Steve (Linda) and Larry (Sue). He was also preceded in death by two brothers. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 6th, at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614, where visitation will be one-hour prior.
