Ellen Erna Boyd

Ellen Erna Wolf Boyd, 99, Topeka, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at McCrite Health Center 3 days shy of her 100th birthday. Ellen was born May 6, 1922, in Buenos Aires, Argentina to Rev Carl H. and Erna M. Kruse Wolf. She lived there approximately eight years while her father was a missionary for the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. She was baptized in Argentina. She was confirmed in her faith at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Chadron, Nebraska where she attended Chadron High School graduating in 1940. Ellen also attended Chadron State College. She married Master Sergeant USMC Gorton Jim Boyd of Chadron on February 17, 1945, in Mt. Rainier, Maryland. Ellen is survived by her sister Ruth Wolf Drake of Rapid City, South Dakota; daughters, Pat Boyd Morris (Dr. Dennis Morris) of Sapulpa, Oklahoma and Sherri Boyd Forbes (Randall Forbes) of Topeka, Kansas; grandchildren, Amy Morris Mock (Eric Mock) of Dallas, Texas, Dr. Blake Morris (Crystal Morris) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Dr. Matt Forbes (Sue Forbes) of Olathe, Kansas, Jarrod Forbes (Chrystal Forbes) of St Louis, Missouri; and great-grandchildren, Merritt and Campbell Mock, Braden and Carter Forbes, Preston and Addi Forbes. Ellen was a lifelong homemaker. After WWII, Ellen and Gorton Jim returned to Chadron and began their family life. The family lived in Holton, Kansas, Augusta, Kansas and Russell, Kansas where Gorton Jim was City Manager in those three communities. Ellen was preceded in death by her husband Gorton Jim, her parents, her sister Esther M. Wolf Hilpert, her brother Armin Wolf and her brother Roland Wolf who died in Argentina as a baby. A private family graveside service will be held in the Russell City Cemetery, Russell, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial contributions be sent to Christ the Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2550 E 71st Street, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74136, for their Lutheran World Relief mission quilt ministry.
