Grover "Bud" Parnell

May 15, 1943 - May 24, 2021

Grover “Buddy” Alton Parnell, Topeka, 78, went to heaven on May 24, 2021. Buddy was born in Gastonia, North Carolina on May 15, 1943, to Franklin and Helen Bradshaw Parnell. Buddy served eight years in the United States Air Force and loved to tell stories about his experiences during those years. After his discharge from the service, he worked 32 years for Mountain Bell in Colorado Springs CO, Southwestern Bell and AT&T, both in Topeka KS. Buddy was a member of Gage Park Baptist Church and Grace United Methodist Church. He had a beautiful voice and found great joy in singing in the choir and singing solos. Buddy loved to go for long drives down country roads in his truck, to fish and hunt, and always had a joke to tell. Buddy married Jennifer Kay Franzen on October 17, 1964. They had three children. After 43 years together, Jennifer preceded him in death. Following her death, Buddy fell in love with Carolyn Davis, and they spent the last twelve years of his life together, enjoying their families, friends, and traveling. He is survived by his children, Brenda Fangman (Jim) of Dallas GA, Bradley of Escalante UT, and Brian (Briana) of Brandon FL; grandchildren, Luke, Taylor, Benjamin, Maggie, and Jackson; and two great-grandsons, Isaac and Kayden. He also loved and was part of Carolyn’s family, stepdaughters, DeNeisse O’Brien (Rick) and Kim Rhoades (Gary), both of Topeka; and Carolyn’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, June 4th, at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614. Funeral Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, June 5th at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Prairie Home Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church and sent in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.kevinbrennanfamily.com.
