John Leo Gerhardt, 86, Topeka, Kansas, passed away on June 26, 2021. John was born November 7, 1934, in Topeka, the son of John and Teresa Domme Gerhardt. He attended Sacred Heart School. John served in the United States Navy from 1953 to 1957. He worked at Santa Fe Shops as a Machinist Mechanic from 1951 to 1996. John married Iris Haun in Plainview, Nebraska, by her father, Rev. Ray Haun, in 1964; she preceded him in death in 2017. He was a Shriner for many years. John loved many types of auto racing and attended races across America during his life. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather that always put his family first. John is survived by his son, Troy; grandchildren, Tabetha and Blaine Gerhardt; brothers, George, Frank, and Ed Gerhardt; sisters, Helen Forbes, Regina Arreguin, Pat Ferrin and Teresa Billbe; and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Richard. Visitation will be 9 a.m. Saturday, July 3rd, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where Rosary will be prayed at 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Funeral Service will be live-streamed on the funeral home Facebook page. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, and sent in care of Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614.
