Matthew Calhoon Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Matthew Dean Calhoon, 45, Topeka, Kansas, passed away at his home Sunday, March 27, 2022. Matt was born March 5, 1977, in Topeka, the son of Patti Harmon and Ronnie Calhoon. He attended Washburn Rural High School and Hiawatha High School, graduating in 1995. Matt attended Allen County Community College and earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Friends University. Matt loved his family and friends dearly and was much loved by them. As a former state wrestling champion in high school, he continued that passion; he enjoyed coaching wrestling and was proud to have coached his sons. Matt was an avid hunter and fisherman. He married his high school sweetheart, Kari Cruse, and they loved spending time with their family and friends at the lake, camping and boating. He was an enthusiastic fan of the Royals, Chiefs and KU. Matt also loved his job as an underwriting supervisor for Kansas Mutual Insurance. Survivors include, his wife, Kari Calhoon; sons, Tavis Dean Calhoon USMC, Chase Matthew Calhoon; daughter, Breana Snyder; mother, Patti Harmon; father, Ronnie Calhoon; step-children, Dominique Davis, Brittney Teneyck, Shelbey Ferguson, Gabriella Davis; six grandchildren; one grandfather; siblings, Stefanie Bevitt (Clayton), Kelle Meininger (Ryan), Jesse Harmon (Katelynn), Rebecca Sivils (Andrew) and Harley Calhoon; his faithful canine, Dodge “Bubba”; and aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, April 1, at Fellowship Bible Church, 6800 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, KS 66615, where funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Auburn Cemetery, Auburn, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to the Matt Calhoon Wrestling Scholarship at Washburn Rural High School or to Ducks Unlimited, and sent in care of Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614.
