Arlene Beuerlein

ARLENE STRUBLE BEUERLEIN, a devoted mother, wife, and woman of deep faith, was born on July 4, 1926, in Edgemont, South Dakota to Lewis and Ethel Davis-Struble. She spent her early years on the family homestead in Wyoming, cherishing weekend trips to Mount Rushmore, where she witnessed history in the making as it was being carved. When the Dust Bowl forced the family to leave their farm in 1937, they relocated to Iowa, where she graduated from Galva High School in Galva, Iowa before pursuing business studies at the American Institute of Business in Des Moines, Iowa During World War II, Arlene served as a payroll clerk at the Women’s Army Corps (WAC) Post at Fort Des Moines, playing a vital role in supporting those serving our country. She later worked for Koss Construction Company before settling in Topeka, Kansas in November 1953. On January 9, 1950, Arlene married John B. Beuerlein at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays, Kansas. They shared 31 years together before his passing on July 7, 1981, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She later married George Stringer, Jr., on December 9, 1989, at Assumption Catholic Church in Topeka. He preceded her in death on May 24, 2000. A dedicated member of Assumption Church since 1953, Arlene was the first female lay member of the Parish Council. She gave tirelessly to her church and community, actively engaging in numerous school and parish activities, including the PTO and sandwich ministry. Beyond her devotion to family and faith, she was an avid sports fan particularly with Big 12 football and basketball and had a deep love for travel, exploring Europe, Canada, Mexico, and countless destinations across the United States. Highlights for both Arlene and her family were annual 4th of July reunions celebrating her birthday, including a return to South Dakota for her 90th where she led the group horseback riding. For the past 20 years, Arlene was also extensively involved in the Quail Cove Homeowners Association, where she played a key role in the overall upkeep of the community, ensuring a well-kept and welcoming neighborhood for all residents. Above all, she was deeply devoted to her family. Arlene leaves behind her four sons: John C. (Cindy) Beuerlein, Edina, MN; Robert M. (Sue) Beuerlein, The Villages, FL; Dr. Joseph E. (Debbie) Beuerlein, Topeka, KS; David L. (Sheila) Beuerlein, Dallas, TX, and one daughter, Mary M. (John) Stewart, Kansas City, MO; eight grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren who will all forever hold her love in their hearts. Arlene passed away peacefully on January 28, 2025, and is reunited in eternal rest with her grandson, Alex Beuerlein, her beloved husbands, her parents, and her only brother, Lowell L. Struble. The rosary will be prayed at 5:30 p.m. Friday, February 14, at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614, where visitation will follow until 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 15, at Mater Dei Assumption Church. Inurnment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, where she will rest beside her husband, John B. Beuerlein. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in memory of Arlene Beuerlein to Assumption Church sent in care of the funeral home.
