Cecilia O. "Chila" Rodriguez

Cecilia O. “Chila” Rodriguez, 81, passed away Monday, Dec. 8, 2003 at Midland Hospice House. Mrs. Rodriguez was born to Nicholas and Antonia Rodriguez Ochoa on March 21, 1922 in Denver, CO. She attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Grade School and graduated from Capitol Catholic High School. Mrs. Rodriguez worked at St Francis Hospital and also was a case manager during the Urban Renewal Project in the 1960. Mrs. Rodriguez was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, St Francis Auxiliary, and the Our Lady of Guadalupe Altar Society. She married Joseph V. “Bitney” Rodriguez on April 3, 1949. He preceded her in death on June 29, 1992 after 43 years of marriage. Her parents, two brothers Augustine and George Ochoa, and two sisters Veronica Box and Madeline Ortega, and a granddaughter Judith Ann Stevenson also preceded her in death. Two daughters Barbara Stevenson and Karen Rodriguez, Topeka and a son Joseph Stan Rodriguez and his wife Cyndi, Smithville MO, survive her. Her grandchildren Candace Rodriguez and her significant other Adrian Mosqueda, Cpl Joseph Justin Rodriguez USMC, Joseph Braxton Rodriguez and Jennifer Atlanta Rodriguez and her four great-grandchildren Joseph Xavier Tomas Rodriguez, Thalia Marie Mosqueda, Matthew Kristofer Mosqueda and Mariah Nicole Mosqueda, also survive Mrs. Rodriguez. Mrs. Rodriguez is also survived by her sisters Gertrude Amato, Kansas City, MO, Rita Hernandez, Mission Viejo, CA, Clara De Santiago, Fresno, CA, Anita Poersch, formerly of Manhattan, Marcella Torrez and Patricia Sleupianik, Topeka, KS and her brothers Gabriel Ochoa and Anthony “Tony” Ochoa, Topeka, and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 4-7 Wednesday, Dec. 10, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Rosaries will be recited by the Daughters of Isabella at 4 p.m. and by the Legion of Mary at 6 p.m. The parish prayer service will be at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 11 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Cremation will follow with inurnment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church Project Pride, 1008 NE Atchison, Topeka KS 66616, or to Midland Hospice Care, 200 SW Frazier Cir, Topeka KS 66606.
