Harry Arthur Bush

Harry Arthur Bush, 82, Topeka, passed away at Select Specialty Hospital after a short illness. Harry was born in Valley Stream, Long Island, New York on Oct. 27, 1926, the son of Harry and Marion Bush. He married the love of his life, Matilda “Tillie” Muro on Aug. 31, 1947. They enjoyed 62 years of marriage and many activities together. They attended the annual Women’s National Bowling Congress tournaments, flying and driving around our great United States. They enjoyed life on Long Island, especially the relaxing times viewing the Great South Bay. He was a Little League coach and a mentor to many youngsters within the Great South Bay program. Harry and Tillie moved to Topeka in 1995 to be near their two children and grandchild. Harry worked for Grumman Aerospace on Long Island at the Bethpage, Calverton and Great River New York plants for 39 years. He was an active member of the Grumman retirees association. He is a veteran of WWII serving in the US Navy in the Pacific theater on the USS New Jersey. Harry was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Assumption Council 5252 in East Islip, serving as Grand Knight multiple times and in other positions as well. In Topeka, he was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Church and the Knights of Columbus Council 4254. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1650 and, until his illness curtailed his activities, he attained Diamond member status at Harrah’s Casino and enjoyed his blackjack. Other hobbies included golf, salt-water fishing and watching his NY Mets play and his adopted KC Royals. Survivors include his wife, Matilda “Tillie” Bush; son, H. Richard Bush; daughter, Gail Kennedy and her husband, Bob; grandson, Shane Kennedy; and his beloved Yorkie, Kacee. He was preceded in death by his step-sister, Marion Schlotter. Family will greet friends from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Sat. at Most Pure Heart of Mary Church where a rosary will be prayed at 10:30. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow at Penwell Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum.
