Jason Cook

Jason Michael Cook, 57, Topeka, Kansas, devoted husband and father and overall great family man and friend, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2024. Jason was born April 15, 1967, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Carol Hochard Haslouer and Charles Vincent Cook. He attended Most Pure Heart of Mary Grade School where he was an altar server and graduated from Hayden High School in 1985. Jason ran cross country for Allen County Community College and graduated from Washburn University with a degree in Communications, the perfect major for someone who loved to talk and make others laugh. Jason made friends with everyone he encountered and enriched the lives of his family and friends with his love, loyalty and generous spirit. Jason lived his life with impeccable character and strong Catholic faith. Jason made every room brighter and our hearts fuller by knowing him. Grateful to have shared Jason’s life are his wife, Rosalind Cook; his children, Mariah Dewey (Brit) and Lauren Cook; his mother, Carol Haslouer; maternal grandmother, Ruth Hochard; his sister, Tracy Best (Tracey); brother, Matt Cook; his best friend, Richard Johnson; his in-laws, Jim and Karen Greenlee; brother-in-law, Rob Greenlee; sister-in-law, Liz Greenlee; many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and far too many friends to count. Jason was preceded in death by his father, Vince Cook; stepfather, Steve Haslouer; grandfather, Bill Hochard; sister, Vicky Aker; and nephew, Noah Aker. Jason would also make sure to add his beloved hunting dog, Brutus, to this list. On March 4, 2011, Jason and Rosalind were married on Marco Island, Florida. Jason made loving and laughing easy. Jason was the best friend, partner and husband Roz could have possibly hoped for. Fourteen years together wasn’t long enough, but they shared a lifetime of love in the time they had. Jason was also fiercely loyal and loving to his daughters, Mariah and Lauren. Jason was sometimes overprotective but he was always loving and funny and fun. Jason was the biggest supporter in the stands and always there when the girls needed him. Jason was a proud girl dad and teacher of street smarts. Jason loved hunting and fishing with Mariah, Brit and Lauren and was always eager to teach them “life skills.” Jason’s proudest accomplishment was seeing his girls grow into successful, beautiful young women. Jason was also thrilled that Mariah found a one-of-a-kind husband when she married Brit. Jason was proud to be a devoted and loving son to Carol and brother to Tracy, Vicky and Matt. Jason loved being Gran Gran’s #1 and the fun uncle to his nieces and nephews. Jason retired in 2023 and loved spending his days outside on his farm as well as at Oliver Lake in Lagrange, Indiana and in Naples, Florida. Jason loved fishing, hunting, cooking, and any other activity that gave him time with his family and friends. Jason was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Visitation will take place at 6 p.m. until 7:45 p.m. on Friday, August 16, at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614. The rosary will be prayed at 7:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church or to the Jason M. Cook Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 750012, Topeka, KS 66675 which has been created to ensure that local youth have the financial opportunity and the proper equipment needed to excel in their extracurricular endeavors.
