Joseph George Meier, Jr.

Joseph George Meier, Jr., 91, of Topeka, Kansas died Friday, February 6, 2026, at Midland Hospice Care. He was born on March 7, 1934, in Topeka, the son of Joseph George Meier, Sr., and Rose Marie Lambrecht. Joseph George married Shirley Louise Deiter on April 11, 1959. She died July 5, 1974. Shirley was the mother of his children, Randall Joseph, “Randy” of Topeka, Christine Louise “Christy” Michaels of Georgetown, Texas, Angela Marie “Angie” Wilson, of Topeka and Kimberly Ann “Kim” Meier and her partner, Jamie Howe, of Shawnee, Kansas. Joseph George is survived by his grandchildren, Heather Louise Whitehead, Amber Marie Whitehead and her partner, Josh Knolton, Rachel Ann Whitehead, Jon Wilson, and William Joshua Nohinek, great-grandchildren, Bailey Cobb, Brielle Razo, Liam and Lucas Nelson. Other survivors include his sisters, Rose Marie Schmidt of Topeka, Phylis Wiedmann and her husband, "Rick" Erich, of Hoyt, Kansas, and Margaret Meier, of Silver Lake, Kansas, brother, Sylvester “Sil” Meier, and his wife Nancy, sisters-in-law, Judy and Barbara Meier, of Topeka, Kansas and many step children, step grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews. Joseph George was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Louise, second wife, Wanda Faye Cox, third wife, Judith Ann Basart Shadduck; his parents, two brothers, Tom and Anthony “Tony” Meier, and brother-in-law, Lee Schmidt. Joseph George served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Germany. Joseph George farmed in the area of the Kansas River bottomland along Lower Silver Lake Road all his life. He co-owned J. G. Meier and Sons Vegetable Markets, originally with his parents and brothers. Joseph George was member of Sacred Heart - St. Joseph Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. Joseph George Meier was a very generous man who touched many lives with his heart and generosity. He was very generous towards his neighbors, known for shoveling snow out of their driveways during the bitter cold months. Joseph George will be remembered for his kindness, his personalness, and always being charitable.
