M. Teresa Chappell Dial

M. Teresa Chappell Dial, 86, Topeka, passed away Saturday, December 5, 2015, at Midland Hospice House. Teresa was born July 21, 1929, in Holton KS, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Colvin) Morrissey. She graduated from Hayden High School in 1947. Teresa married Robert “Bob” Chappell in 1947, together they had nine children. They later divorced. She married Francis A. “Frank” Dial in 1970. Teresa retired from FDIC in 1994. She was a member of Mater Dei Parish since 1952, as well as a member of the Women of the Moose. Though Teresa had many roles her most important were mother and grandmother. She instilled in her children and grandchildren a love of family, teaching the generations that followed her that nothing and no one is more important than your loved ones. Teresa was known for giving whatever she could to those in need. If she didn’t have anything left to give, she would’ve still given us all laughter. Her sense of humor and her sweet smile remained intact until the last seconds of her life and those memories will not fade. Grateful for sharing her life are her husband, Frank Dial; children, Pam Sanneman (John Tomsich), Cincinnati OH, Shelly Carlson (Tom), Lawrence KS, Janice Howe (Phil), Topeka KS, Kevin Chappell (Ruth), Enid OK, Patty Meier (Larry), Topeka KS, Judy Bronaugh (Rod), Paola KS, Jerry Chappell (Jamie), Houston TX, Tracey Yahne, Topeka KS; 18 grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; brother, Pat Morrissey (Joan); sister, Carol Traylor (Jim); sister-in-law, Bert Morrissey; brothers-in-law, Don Knighton and Phil Lynn; and numerous nieces and nephews. Teresa was a preceded in death by her son, Danny Chappell; step-son, David Dial; grandson, John Howe; three sisters and two brothers. A parish rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614, where family will greet friends from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at Mater Dei Holy Name Church with burial following at Mount Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Midland Care Hospice or the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, sent in care of the funeral home.
