Marie-Theres Beuchat

Marie-Theres Bobbert Beuchat, Topeka, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2024. Marie was born May 12, 1931, in Paderborn, Germany, the daughter of August and Maria Bobbert. She grew up in Paderborn during Nazi rule and eventually met Richard Beuchat while he was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. They were married on January 20, 1956, at Saint Bonifatius Catholic Church in Paderborn after the prerequisite civil ceremony at the Rathaus (City Hall) the day before. At 25, she came to the United States when Richard’s service was up. Although she learned some English in Germany, she became fluent by watching American television and doing crossword puzzles. Marie kept a sometimes thick, lingering German accent, even though her siblings teased her that she spoke German with a Kansas accent. Marie was a member of Mater Dei Catholic Parish. She retired from Stormont Vail after 25 years. Marie was a member of the KS Alpha Chapter of Delta Theta Chi Sorority since 1963. She held multiple chapter offices. Marie received her 50-year award in 2013 and was awarded Life Membership in 2023. She loved knitting, crocheting, crossword puzzles, bowling weekly and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She has left a large space that only family love will fill. Marie is survived by her children, Ron Beuchat (Kelley), Ursula Beuchat, Wayne Beuchat (Sara), Marie Kalas (Ed), Shawn Beuchat; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Ursula Bobbert; sister-in-law, Thea Bobbert; and her beloved dog, Autumn. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Beuchat, sisters, Luise Bobbert, Irmgard Vieth (Anton), Elisabeth Bokel, and brother, Josef Bobbert. Rosary will be prayed at 5:30 p.m. Monday, June 24, 2024, at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614, where visitation will follow until 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at Mater Dei Holy Name Church, 1114 SW 10th, Topeka KS 66604. Burial will be in Prairie Home Cemetery, 3430 NW Menoken Road, Topeka, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to the Blessing Bryce Kalas Medical Fund for her grandson or to Capper Foundation, where Bryce received many services are suggested, and sent in care of the funeral home.
