Robert McCaffrey

Robert Eugene McCaffrey, 68, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away at his home on Wednesday, February 3rd, 2021. Robert "Bob" was the 3rd son born to William F. Jr. and Grace K. McCaffrey on December 3, 1952. He is survived by his two children, Peter (Autumn) McCaffrey of Reno, NV and Ann (Adam) Marsh of Hendersonville, Tennessee. He shared a great fondness for his grandkids, Amaya and Nate McCaffrey and Ariana and Avery Marsh. Also surviving Bob are his siblings, Tom, Steve, Don (Kathy) and Ellen McCaffrey of Topeka, Lori (Steve) Clinkinbeard of Topeka, Diane (Bob) DeWitt of Goddard, Kansas, Sheryl (Brian) Scharf of Auburn, Kansas, Sharon (Jeff) Riese of Maricopa, Arizona; as well as many Nieces and Nephews. Bob was baptized and raised Catholic. He graduated from Hayden High School in 1970 and later earned two degrees from Washburn University. Bob volunteered for the US Army and served in the Vietnam War. He worked for many companies but the one he held the most fondness for was the Santa Fe Railroad. Through these affiliations, Bob formed the life-long relationships that he revisited regularly. If Bob knew you, you were forever in his thoughts and contributed to shaping who he became in life. Bob was a simple man with simple desires and he embodied many roles throughout his life: To his Children, Bob was a self-sacrificing family-man. He was a kind, responsible, caring and reliable. He recognized that life’s lessons needed to be learned through living. He was always there to give prospective to events in life and offered up advice to help us to navigate through life’s challenges. To his Siblings, Bob was ornery and a jokester. He was also a kind soul who helped many people throughout his years, never wanting anything in return. Bob was the Genealogist of his family and often went to great lengths to discover the McCaffrey and Brooke family lineages. He regularly sought to create connections in the family tree through not only discovering the connection but, reaching out and finding things out about the family members in the tree. Other things he loved was music of all kinds, cooking, traveling, and antiquing. One of his greatest joys was sharing what he had or what he found with anyone who would lend an ear. As per Bob’s wishes, he has been cremated. A Celebration of Life gathering and his inurnment at Mount Hope Cemetery will be at a later date.
