Ruby Blazier

Ruby Jane Blazier, 62, of Topeka, passed away Tues. June 17, 2008 at St. Francis Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Ruby was born on June 23, 1945 in Emporia, KS. She was adopted at a very early age by Delbert and Wanda Harris McCormick. She grew up in Lebo, KS and graduated from Lebo High School. After graduation, she moved to Topeka and went to work for McCellan Dime Store for a short time, then working for Hallmark Cards for 28 years, before failing health stopped her from working. Ruby married James L. Plank on June 13, 1964. They later divorced. She married Charles E. Blazier on April 4, 1981. He survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Karen Schmidt and a son, Phil Plank, both of Topeka; a brother, George F. Wathen, Jr. of San Antonio, TX; two sisters, Betty L. Taylor of Pacific Grove, CA and Kaye Albin of New York Mills, MN; a step-father, Max Andrews of Neosho Rapids. KS; three grandchildren, Stephanie, Derek and Dylan Schmidt; four step-children, Rick and Chris Blazier of Topeka and Susan Sommers and Steven Blazier, both of Salina; ten step-grandchildren and three step-greatgrandchildren and a step-brother, Russ White of Waverly, KS. Ruby was preceded in death by her adoptive parents, a step-father, Glenn R. White of Lebo; a brother, Clyde L. McCormick of Lindsborg and a sister, Lee Holmes of Salina. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Topeka and the Daughters of Isabella, Little Flower Circle #503. She volunteered at the church, St. Francis Hospital and Midland Hospice House. Ruby enjoyed working with her hands by making flower arrangements, wedding flowers, crocheted afghans and making quilts. She also enjoyed her flower garden and traveling. Ruby will lie in state after 12:00 pm, Sunday, June 22, 2008 at the Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW. Urish Rd., Topeka, KS 66614 where a D of I rosary will be prayed beginning at 5:00 pm. The family will greet friends following the rosary until 8:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Monday, June 23 at Christ the King Catholic Church with burial to follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice House and sent in care of the funeral home.
