Viola Murray

Viola Rose Murray, 71, of Auburn KS passed away, May 24, 2014, at her home. She was born March 15, 1943, in Beatrice NE to Ruthger Clark and Nina Bell Finch Frahm. She was raised in Buchard NE, graduating from Summerfield High School in 1960. On May 29, 1960 she married Gene D. Murray in Summerfield KS at the United Presbyterian Church. They later moved to Topeka KS. To this union were born three children whom they raised on their farm southwest of Auburn KS. Viola worked after graduating high school at Southwestern Bell Telephone until 1964. She then worked for Goodyear for twenty-one years. After that Vi and Gene started their family contracting business, Murray and Sons Construction in 1984. Vi joined Gene full time in 1965 after Goodyear moved their key department to Ohio. Vi worked side by side with Gene until 2008 when she retired. Later, when her cancer was in remission, Vi was always Gene’s right hand partner in life and in their properties, cattle and construction. One of her greatest joys was raising her family in rural Kansas on their first farm which they bought in June of 1970. Vi loved her nine grandchildren more than words can express. She loved talking to them, cooking for them and watching them grow and succeed in their activities. From 2005 until the day she died she was at home with Gene. She loved the home they built together and she fought tirelessly to be with her family and grandchildren in the past seven years. She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband Gene Murray, Auburn,KS ; her children Greg Murray, Topeka KS, Debbie Gibson, (Mike), Topeka KS, Scott Murray, (Dawn), Auburn, Ks; five grandsons Bryan Murray, Auburn, Gunner Murray, Topeka, Bowan Murray, Topeka, Bishop Murray, Topeka, Degan Murray, Auburn; four grand-daughters, Lindsay Duncan, (Eric) Topeka, Kelsey Murray, Topeka, MacKenzie Murray, Auburn , Ryley Gibson, Topeka; one great grandson Logan Duncan, Topeka; three brothers, Russell Frahm, Skyler NE, Albert Frahm, Topeka, Reed Frahm, Topeka; one sister Elsie Minzel, Emerald NE; honorary family members Larry and Tamara Jackson and family, Auburn, many nieces and nephews and friends. Vi was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters Martha Brodie and Dorothy Gohde; four brothers Ed Frahm, Walter Frahm, Henry Frahm and Alan Frahm. Visitation for Viola, where the family will greet friends, will be Wednesday 5:30-7:30 pm at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614. A celebration of Life is planned for Thursday at 10:00 am also at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Auburn Cemetery at 88th and Hodges Road in Auburn KS. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Cancer Center of Topeka, the Auburn Community Center, 121 West 11th Auburn KS 60402, or the Auburn Civic Center.
