William "Bill" Gaston

William Joseph Gaston, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2026. Bill was born September 14, 1937, in Morrill, Kansas, the third son of James E. and Mary C. Chenoweth Gaston. Bill graduated from Morrill High School in 1956 and Wichita School of Barbering in 1957. He barbered in the First National Bank building shop prior to operating Country Club Barbers as an original merchant in White Lake Mall for 43 years. Bill was named Barber of The Year in 1977, served four years on the State Barber Board of Examiners of Kansas, and was a member of AMBBA for many years before his retirement in 2006. He very much treasured the many friendships he made with his clients over the years. Bill’s faith in God and his family were very important to him. He was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and served as an usher for over 30 years, a Perpetual Adoration Guardian, a member of This Man Is You, and a worker for Let’s Help. Bill was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed waterskiing, hunting, fishing, and gardening. Bill was also a loyal fan of KU basketball and Chiefs football. Grateful to have shared Bill’s life are his wife, Geraldine of 35 years. Other survivors are daughter, Sheri (Jay) Poore; stepdaughters, Paulette (Stacey) Schwerdt and Brenda (LA) Schwerdt; grandchildren, David (Kim) Gaston, Hillary (Jeff) Lolley, Meredith (Mike) Harold, Kacie (Jayson) Briggs, Pamela (Ryan) King, and Katelynn (Willie) Madl; daughter-in-law, Trina Gaston; and eleven great grandchildren. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his sons, Rodney on October 27, 2018, and Rick on December 20, 2010, grandson, Rodney William on March 3, 2019, and brothers, Gary and Bob Gaston. Bill will be remembered as an amazing, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Bill loved people and was the most thoughtful person you will ever meet. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. where rosary will be prayed at 10 a.m. and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 3601 SW 17th Street, Topeka KS 66604. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
